Movement Meditations

For Black August 2021, I participated in a collective haiku-writing practice inspired by SpiritHouse North Carolina. In collaboration with a group of dance practitioners, we started to reflect on the prompts using dance and movement. For 30 days, I engaged a daily movement practice: intentionally listening to my body and allowing my witnessing to inspire a haiku. I weave together movement with sound, text and video. It is an emergent and iterative practice of embodied listening that I continue to revisit.

Below are a selection of the movement mediations that have emerged over the past few years, and a collection of the original meditations that sparked this practice.
